The Initiative, a non-profit partnership, exists to protect, restore and enjoy the St. Joseph River and its watershed, which stretches across 694,400 acres through six counties in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. Since its inception in 1996, the Initiative has met its goals and is emulated by other watershed projects throughout the country.

Lower St. Joseph-Bear Creek Watershed Management Plan
A field draft of the Lower St. Joseph-Bear Creek Watershed Management Plan has been completed and submitted to IDEM for approval. This effort has produced some very important data about the Lower St. Joseph and Bear Creek sub-watersheds. With the mapping and water quality data collected for this planning effort, it will be easier to target management techniques and changes in land use that will have the greatest impact on water quality in the St. Joseph River. The plan, in draft form, can be accessed below. Public comments are welcome and watch for the final version to come at a later date.
